Yoko-en (pond garden)

Yoko-en (pond garden)
The landscape gardener Nakane Kinsaku designed this expansive garden. The construction began in 1963 and took three years to complete. The Yoko-en contains the elegance within austerity that was the basis for traditional garden landscapes and is regarded as one of the Showa period’s (1926-1989) finest gardens. While it is difficult to see at a glance, great pains have gone into the details. Yoko-en is featured as an ascending garden in terms of the deep and spacious impression you get when you view the garden from the front.
