Hojo (Buddha Hall)

Hojo (Buddha Hall)
Taizo-in’s Hojo or Buddha Hall was built 400 years ago in 1597, and it is designated as Japan’s important cultural property. It is said that the famed swordsman Miyamoto Musashi lived at Taizo-in’s Hojo during the Edo Period (1603-1867). It is proven by the fact that a motif of a gourd, symbolic to our treasure Hyonenzu, is engraved on his sword, which is currently kept at his museum in Okayama Prefecture.
