Sanmon (Entrance Gate)

Built in the middle of the Edo period (1603- 1867), the design of Taizo-in’s sanmon or entrance gate is known as Yakuimon-styled Gate. The gate consists of two central columns and two supporting columns. This type of gate is also known as Oyashikimon, usually employed by upper-class individuals. Among the sub-temples of Myoshin-ji, our gate is said to be the most strategically positioned example of Yakuimon.
